It’s still 2025: Did I lose my focus?

When you set goals, how do you stay motivated to achieve them? At the beginning of 2025, I shared my 10 New Year's Resolutions on social media:

  1. Read more.

  2. Learn more about AI and its impact on governance/national security.

  3. Improve foreign language proficiency.

  4. Jungle School or Airborne School or some other cool Army school.

  5. Run consistently.

  6. 50 push-ups in a single set (I'm at 36).

  7. Unplug more.

  8. Write more / Publish this year.

  9. Keep a positive attitude.

  10. Be a good team member.

I selected these 10 goals because I thought they would provide me with an overall balance. Most of my goals are focused on mental and intellectual stimulation or physical health and wellness.

Did I lose my focus?

I shared my goals publicly for myriad reasons, but mostly for personal accountability. And while I love setting goals, I don’t share much about my journey along the way. I’ll occasionally post on social media about running or working out, but my posts are not in the context of my journey.

To get in the habit of writing more (goal #8 above), I’m going to provide some insight about my journey by creating a series of blog posts centered on each goal. I hope you enjoy following my series. More to follow…
